ReadBack Terms of Service

한국어 · 日本語 · English

Effective date: October 19, 2026 · Version: 2026-10-19

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) set out the conditions for using the mobile application ReadBack and the paid service ReadBack Pro (together, the “Service”), provided by Plainloop Studio (the “Provider”), and the rights and obligations of the Provider and users in connection with it.

Users can read these Terms and the Privacy Policy on the App’s first-launch screen, on the Settings screen and on the ReadBack Pro purchase screen. Before buying a paid product, users can see the main terms of the transaction, such as the price, billing interval and whether it renews automatically, on the app store’s purchase screen.

Article 1 (Content of the Service)

  1. ReadBack is a local-first reader app. It saves and organizes the links and related information of the web content a user chooses, and offers features such as viewing the original, rediscovery, search and Reader. The Provider does not run its own server to hold users’ saved content centrally.
  2. The Service may include a Reader feature that analyzes the structure of a web page the user has saved and displays it in an easy-to-read form.
  3. Content shown in Reader keeps its original source and URL wherever possible.
  4. The Service has no feature that forcibly bypasses technical protection measures an original site applies, such as paywalls, logins, authentication or anti-bot systems.
  5. Because of an original site’s structure, policies or technical restrictions, some web pages may not save, analyze or display properly in Reader.
  6. The Provider does not operate a news or content redistribution service that republishes the original content users save to an unspecified audience.

Article 2 (Data Storage and Backup)

  1. The Service may be offered without requiring a separate ReadBack registration or its own account.
  2. Links, content, reading history, favorites, classification information, app settings and similar data a user saves are, by default, stored on the user’s device.
  3. If the Service offers an external backup feature and the user turns it on, backup data may be stored in the external storage service the user chooses.
  4. When the Google Drive backup feature is used, backup data is stored in the user’s Google Drive account. As a rule, the Provider does not keep a separate copy of it on the Service’s operating servers.
  5. Where a password or encryption applies to backup data, the user is responsible for keeping that information safe. With a backup method in which the Provider does not hold the password, the data may be impossible to recover if the password is lost.
  6. Users understand that local data can be lost through a lost or reset device, deletion of the App, storage damage, operating system problems and similar causes, and should make their own backups where they need to.
  7. More detail on how the Service handles data is in the Privacy Policy.

Article 3 (User Obligations)

  1. Users must use the Service in compliance with the laws of the Republic of Korea (or the applicable laws of the country or region where the user lives) and the terms of use of the original sites where the user views content.
  2. Within the limits of applicable law and these Terms, users may use the Service for personal reading, organizing, searching and other personal use.
  3. Users must not use the Service to infringe the copyright or other rights of third parties. Article 4 sets out the specific standards for using the original content and stored data that the Service processes or stores.
  4. Users must not:
    • Use the Service for an unlawful purpose
    • Infringe another person’s copyright, trademark, personal information or other rights
    • Place an abnormal load on the Service or on third-party systems
    • Intentionally interfere with the normal operation of the Service
    • Reverse engineer or tamper with the Service, except as applicable law permits
  5. A user is responsible for their own use of the Service if it infringes a third party’s rights. Where the law holds the Provider liable, however, applicable law governs.

Article 4 (Original Content and Intellectual Property)

  1. Copyright and other rights in the articles, papers, blog posts, images and other original content that is saved or viewed through the Service belong to the respective authors or other rights holders.
  2. The Provider does not claim ownership or copyright in the original content users save.
  3. The Service keeps the source and URL of original content wherever possible.
  4. The creator or provider of original content is responsible for its accuracy, completeness, timeliness and lawfulness. The Provider does not warrant the original content itself.
  5. If an original site or rights holder, relying on legitimate rights, asks to restrict the Reader feature, files a copyright infringement report or makes another inquiry, the Provider may review the matter and consider what action is needed.
  6. Rights in the ReadBack application itself, including its program, design, user interface, brand and logo, and in content the Provider has created directly, belong to the Provider or the relevant rights holder.
  7. To provide Reader, search, rediscovery, highlights, translation and other conveniences, the Service may need to process or store part or all of the original content on the user’s device. Copyright and other rights in original content stay with the original author or rights holder. Neither the user nor the Provider acquires ownership, copyright or any other right in the content through this processing or storage.
  8. Users may use the original content the Service processes or stores, and the data saved from it (including database files, backup files and copies created with the Service’s copy and export features), for personal reading, organizing, searching, backup and similar purposes. Using the Service’s highlight, translation, copy, backup and export features is not, by itself, a violation of this Article. Except where applicable law allows it or the rights holder has given permission, however, users must not:
    1. Sell, repost, distribute or publicly transmit saved content or copies of it, or otherwise make it available to third parties
    2. Extract, collect or combine all or a substantial part of saved content or stored data in bulk or by automated means to build a dataset or corpus; use such content, data or datasets to train or fine-tune an artificial intelligence model, or for a substantially similar purpose; or provide them to third parties
  9. Paragraph 8 does not restrict uses that the law permits, such as those under Articles 30, 35-5 and 36 of the Copyright Act of the Republic of Korea, or uses the rights holder has permitted. Users are responsible under applicable law for their own violations of paragraph 8. Nothing in this paragraph excludes or limits the Provider’s legal liability for its own willful misconduct or negligence.

Article 5 (Paid Services and Payment)

  1. Some features of the Service may be offered as paid products, such as ReadBack Pro.
  2. The type, price, period of use, billing interval and features of a paid product are as shown on the purchase screen of Google Play, the Apple App Store or another official app store (each, an “app store”) at the time of purchase.
  3. An Unlimited Pass (a one-time purchase) is a paid product that gives access to ReadBack Pro for a single payment, with no subscription or automatic renewal. The price and features are as shown on the app store and the Service’s purchase screen at the time of purchase.
  4. A one-time purchase does not automatically include every feature that may later be released as a separate product or add-on service. What it covers is determined by the product details shown at the time of purchase and by applicable law.
  5. If a subscription product is offered, it may renew automatically at the billing interval shown at the time of purchase unless the user cancels.
  6. A user who wants to cancel a subscription can do so with the subscription management feature of the app store where the product was bought.
  7. Deleting the App may not cancel a subscription, so users who want to cancel should do so themselves in the app store’s subscription management.
  8. After canceling, the user can keep using ReadBack Pro until the period already paid for ends. Canceling stops automatic renewal from the next billing interval; when exactly the period of use ends, and how the cancellation is handled, depend on the app store’s policies, purchase terms and applicable law.
  9. Payment is processed through the payment system of the app store where the user bought the product, and the Provider does not hold payment-method information such as credit card numbers.
  10. If a ReadBack Pro entitlement is no longer valid and the user returns to the free plan, the data the free Library features need, such as titles, sources, original URLs, summaries and read and favorite status, stays on the user’s device, and the user can keep using it with the free features.
  11. When a ReadBack Pro entitlement is no longer valid, features offered only with Pro become restricted, and the original content saved on the device for Pro Reader features may be deleted or become unusable.

Article 6 (Withdrawal, Purchase Cancellation and Refunds)

  1. Withdrawal, purchase cancellation and refunds for paid products are governed by the policies of the app store where the user bought the product and by the law that applies to the user.
  2. An app store’s refund policy does not limit the rights of withdrawal, contract termination, refund or other consumer rights that applicable law gives users.
  3. The law may restrict withdrawal in some cases, for example once delivery of digital content has begun.
  4. If the Service delivered differs from what was displayed, advertised or agreed, the user’s rights of withdrawal or refund under applicable law may apply.
  5. Where the app store receives and processes refund requests, users can use the refund procedure that app store provides.
  6. Where applicable law requires the Provider itself to handle a refund or consumer request, users can contact customer support using the details in these Terms.

Article 7 (Changes to Prices and Paid Products)

  1. The Provider may change the price or composition of paid products for reasons such as operating costs, changes to features or market conditions, or other reasonable grounds.
  2. If a change in price or product composition affects existing users, the Provider will announce it in advance through appropriate means such as the App or the official website.
  3. As a rule, the Provider does not apply less favorable conditions retroactively to purchases already completed or to periods of use already paid for.
  4. Where a separate consent from the user is needed, such as for an increase in a subscription price or a switch to a paid plan, the app store’s procedures and applicable law apply.

Article 8 (Changes, Restrictions and Termination of the Service)

  1. The Provider may change all or part of the Service, or restrict it, for a reasonable cause such as:
    • Improving or redesigning Service features
    • Security measures
    • Changes to the operating system or device environment
    • Changes to app store policies
    • Requirements of laws or competent authorities
    • Changes to or termination of an external service or API the Service uses
    • Changes to the structure or access policies of an original website
    • Other causes that are unavoidable in operating the Service
  2. For a change that materially affects users, or a significant reduction of paid features, the Provider will endeavor to give notice in advance, allowing a reasonable period.
  3. If the Provider decides to end the Service as a whole, then unless there are special circumstances it will announce the schedule and key details in advance so that users can take the steps they need.
  4. If a significant reduction or termination of a paid service gives users a right to a refund, contract termination or other rights under applicable law, that law applies.
  5. Even if the Service ends or the App is no longer distributed, as a rule the Provider will not remotely delete local data already stored on a user’s device.
  6. However, because of operating system or device changes, the end of distribution through an app store, changes to external services and similar causes, users may in the future be unable to keep using the existing App or some of its features.

Article 9 (Accuracy of the Service and Liability)

  1. The Reader feature works by automatically analyzing the structure of the original web page, so depending on how a website is built, body text, images, tables or other content may be missing or displayed incorrectly.
  2. Where the Service offers translation, text-to-speech, content analysis or other automated processing, the results may contain errors or inaccuracies.
  3. Except as applicable law provides otherwise, the Provider is not liable for service disruption or damage caused by something outside its responsibility, such as:
    • Force majeure, such as natural disasters
    • Failure of the user’s device or a configuration error
    • The user’s willful misconduct or negligence
    • Communications network failure
    • Failure, change or termination of an original site
    • Failure, policy change or termination of a third-party service such as Google Play, the Apple App Store or Google Drive
  4. Nothing in these Terms is to be read as excluding, or unreasonably limiting, the Provider’s legal liability for its own willful misconduct or gross negligence.
  5. The Provider’s liability for damages is determined by applicable law.

Article 10 (Changes to These Terms)

  1. The Provider may change these Terms, as long as the change does not violate applicable law.
  2. For general changes that are not unfavorable to users, the Provider will, as a rule, announce the changes and the effective date through the App, the official website or similar means at least 7 days before they take effect.
  3. For changes that are unfavorable to users or otherwise important, such as those that restrict users’ rights or increase their obligations, the Provider will, as a rule, announce the changes and the effective date at least 30 days in advance.
  4. For changes that require individual notice or the user’s separate consent under applicable law, the procedures that law prescribes apply.
  5. Where the law requires separate consent, a user’s continued use of the Service is not treated as that consent.
  6. The Provider holds no user accounts or email addresses, so instead of individual email it gives the notices under paragraphs 2 and 3 in a way users will actually see, such as a change notice screen shown when the App launches. Simply editing the Terms page on the official website does not make the changed Terms apply to users.
  7. A user who does not agree to the changed Terms may stop using the Service and, if using a subscription product, may cancel the subscription through the app store.

Article 11 (Privacy)

  1. The Provider complies with applicable law on the protection of personal information.
  2. The types of personal information and user data the Service handles, the purposes of processing, retention periods, the use of external services and related matters are set out in the separately published ReadBack Privacy Policy.
  3. Users can read the Privacy Policy before using the Service.

Article 12 (Governing Law and Dispute Resolution)

  1. The laws of the Republic of Korea apply to these Terms and to matters relating to use of the Service.
  2. If a dispute arises between the Provider and a user, the parties may first try to resolve it amicably through consultation.
  3. A dispute that consultation cannot resolve follows the procedures, and goes to the competent court, provided by applicable law.
  4. These Terms do not limit the consumer rights that applicable law gives users.
